  Movie Reviews

Movie: "Emma"
"Emma" is one of my favorite movies as are most of the Jane Austen movies. It is hilarious yet touching and has a marvelous ending. The actors and actresses portray their roles magnificently and the scenery is breathtaking.
I will recommend "Emma" to anyone who loves wholesome movies with wit and romance.

Movie: "Resurrection"
"Resurrection" is an awesome movie that deserves recognition. It really makes you think about Jesus' resurrection from a different point of view, that of the men who crucified him. The graphics are realistic but not too much that you cannot handle them. Lastly, this is not a one time watch movie, every time you watch it you will find new insights about God and His Word. I know you will love "Resurrection as much as I did.

Book Reviews

Book: "Emotional Purity - An Affair of the Heart"

by Heather Arnel Paulsen, B.S.W.

I have been looking at this book in catalogues for a year or so, and kept wondering if I should buy it or not. I finally bought it this year at a homeschool conference and it's the best I've ever spent! When I started reading the book, I was amazed, it is different then any book I've ever read. Now, it is one of my favorite books and I definitely recommend it!

Book: "And What About College"
by Cafi Cohen
A informative book about how homeschoolers can get into the best colleges and are chosen sometimes because THEY ARE HOMESCHOOLERS. It includes transcripts and cover letters of her children to their desired colleges. It guides you through the basics of the porfolio method and the transcript method. It also tells you to build your record keeping around each individual child according to their specific interests. "And What About College" is definitely worth the read.

Book: "Facts The Historians Leave Out"
The book "Facts The Historians Leave out" was eye opening especially because most of this information you never would hear about anywhere else. For example did you know that Abraham Lincoln in Congress in 1847 said that he believed people had the "right to rise up and shake off the existing government and form a new one". Why did he change his mind? Another thing about Abraham Lincoln was that he believed that African Americans should be free from slavery but he did not believe that they were equal to white people. This is clearly wrong and racialist. He said himself to a few free African American people, "when you cease to be slaves, you are yet far removed from being placed on an equality with the white race".
Now here's another thing people do not think about. The North was the one who brought the slaves here not the South. The North wanted the South to buy the slaves that they brought over and they said okay we'll buy them. Later though they say you cannot have slaves anymore when they were the ones who brought them over. Does that make sense to you?
Did the Emancipation Proclamation actually free all the slaves? Well it did not; it only freed the ones in the South and of those, only parts of some states. Lincoln did not mention Maryland, Kentucky, or Missouri! He also was not in charge of the Southern states so he really did not have the power free them. The Proclamation was written to make other countries and the slaves to make them think that they were fighting over slavery. Also if it had really set the slaves free it would have effected his wife's family because his father-in-law owned slaves.
The book also talk about how many things have been told about the starving soldiers in Southern prisons but do people know why they were starving? The South had no food and the North when asked would not send food to their men, which would have kept them from starving. Also the Northern prisoners were given just as much food as the Southern soldiers were. Also here is another thing you don't hear, more Southern prisoners died in northern prisons then northern soldiers in Southern prisons and the North had food.
Did the South commit treason? Was it really wrong to secede from the Union? Well, first, they did not commit treason. It had been said many times including in the Declaration of Independence that "Whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to abolish it, and to institute a new government". They weren't against secession. Also it was taught in textbooks that it was perfectly fine to secede. Why wouldn't the North let the South sucede?
States rights, this is one of the main reasons that the South seceded. The North was making the South pay tariffs on their cotton, which they had to pay because that was the only way they could sell it. Because of this the South was losing lots of money. Also the abolitionists were stirring up hostility in the slaves which made them kill many innocent people. The South had to secede because that was the only way they would be safe.
Now let us go to the actual war. The South had nothing. The North had a navy, army, and supplies. Why was the South winning at first? Because they didn't change generals all the time like the North and they knew how to fight. Why did the South lose? The North had four times as many men as them and the South had few weapons and no supplies.
